My Year in Review
This year has been a long one indeed. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t want to take photography at first, but over time, I started seeing all the different possibilities of photography. It’s not just photography either, use of photoshop is definitely a great skill to have for future jobs. After realizing this, I started to involve myself more in these projects. I actually started to try in the following pictures I took, although my partner wasn’t as enthusiastic as I was. But that didn’t matter, I still had a good time learning different photo techniques. A lot of them were certainly challenging, for instance, the Viking Things project. It seemed like a pretty straight forward project, but coming up with ideas for a project of the like is a bit more difficult than you think. I had my fair share of idea blocks throughout it. But with a little help I was able to push through.
That was the main problem I ran into on projects, the art block I kept having. Another example being the Posing 101 project. I was actually unhappy with the end results, I feel like I could’ve done better, but that I just didn’t. I thought the poses were unoriginal, not unique, they didn’t pop out enough to be interesting. Things like that. So I really wanted to try harder on coming up with ideas from then on. I eventually got better at being original, which was probably for the better, so that the rest of my projects went relatively smoothly.
But let’s say I had the chance to do those projects again. I would definitely have done it differently than I did the first time around. But I think anyone would. I would spend more time thinking about quality poses and picture taking angles, rather than just lazily going for quantity over quality. That’s never good, but I changed for the better.
One of the things I had hoped for was for us to spend more time on photoshop. Sure, taking actual pictures was fun, but I absolutely loved photoshop. Not to say we didn’t spend a good deal of time on it, and mixed it in with various pictures we took. But I still wanted more. My only suggestion for next year is if you could dwell more on photoshop. It’s a terrific skill to have in the real world and in school.
My only advice for anyone reading this next year is to be ready to brainstorm an unhealthy amount. To get by in this class or to get extra credit for photos used is to have a good imagination. Standard photos won’t stand out, they’re considered standard for a reason. But if you have the creativity and imagination to make your photos stand out, then it’s smooth sailing for you. People will be attracted to your photos, and gaining traction is what you want when taking photos. So if you have that, then you’ve already passed, so good luck.
Down below this are my top 5 favorite projects, not in any particular order, though
